CHANCELLOR SEARCH

Welcome from Interim Chancellor Brostrom

It’s an honor to serve as UC Merced’s interim chancellor during the University of California’s international search to fill the giant shoes left behind by Chancellor Emerita Dorothy Leland. When not on the road meeting with prospective donors and advocating on behalf of UC Merced, I won’t be hard to find. I will be living alongside students in the residence halls, eating in the new Pavilion, and working out in the recreation and wellness center. If you see me, please introduce yourself and tell me your story of choosing UC Merced.

I’m a little bit emotional. I’ve always thought of myself as pretty tough.

The Leland Legacy

In eight years as UC Merced's guiding force, Chancellor Dorothy Leland reshaped the university and raised its reputation as a destination for academic excellence and student success.

In a case of excellent timing, UC Merced celebrated the opening of the second phase of the Merced 2020 expansion project while giving a fond bon voyage to the leader who championed the project from the start.

“I’m a little bit emotional. I’ve always thought of myself as pretty tough,” Dorothy Leland said at an unveiling ceremony – her last speech as the university's leader. We wish Chancellor Emerita Leland the best as she continues her own journey.
