Wondering where you should capture some of your first photos as a new Bobcat?
We invite you to explore UC Merced’s three new art installations. They just happen to be perfect venues for a selfie!
Graphic Letters: UCM and M
The UC Merced Graphic Letters were installed in Spring 2023, adding new vibrancy to key gathering points on campus. Each of the Graphic Letters features "The Big M," the core identifier of the UC Merced Brand. Incorporating this branding element into these new colorful landmarks enhances the campus's visual identity and speaks to UC Merced's innovative spirit and commitment to excellence.
The Labyrinth
The Labyrinth at UC Merced, opening in Fall 2023, stands as a symbol of tranquility and a new space for reflection and contemplation on the UC Merced campus. You can find The Labyrinth next to The Pavilion, nestled within the Kelley Grove on the banks of the Little Lake. Created by renowned labyrinth-artist Lars Howlett, The Labyrinth is designed to support the mental health and well-being of our students, staff, faculty, and visitors. As you enter The Labyrinth, you are invited to embark on a meditative journey through a temporary escape from the demands of daily life.
We hope these new landmarks bring you joy throughout your time on campus, as well as the murals, sculptures and statues, and indoor art and artifacts (arts.ucmerced.edu/campus-art). Art can be transformative – it can heal our souls, lift our spirits and shift our perspectives. We are thankful that UC Merced continues to offer a growing variety of art for our community to enjoy.
