chancelor dorothy leland steps down

Chancellor Dorothy Leland stepped down as Chancellor after more than 8 years of leading the UC’s newest campus, overseeing a $1 billion expansion project that doubled the size of the campus and a student body of more than 8,000 students. UC systemwide Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Office Nathan Brostrom is now serving as interim chancellor of UC Merced.

merced 2020 second phase

The growing UC Merced campus recently debuted the second phase of the innovative Merced 2020 Project, a multiyear plan to add 1.2 million gross square feet of classroom, office, research laboratory, dining, recreation, housing and other needed facilities.

Phase two includes the Arts and Computational Sciences Building, the Sustainability Research and Engineering Building, a Research Server Container Facility, a regional loading dock, a recreation field and outdoor basketball courts, and additional residential housing. The academic buildings offer brand new studio art, art history, dance and recording teaching facilities, as well as a center of gravity for the sustainability research and engineering and the computational science departments.

academic programs

UC Merced’s academic offerings also continue to increase and evolve. The Earth Systems Science major has transitioned to the Environmental Systems Science major. Economics is now offering a B.S. degree as well as the B.A. degree.
