We are looking forward to welcoming you at New Student Orientation this month! Our team is working on finalizing the details of our newly re-envisioned orientation experience and we are excited to meet you and your parents and supporters. Here is some helpful information to prepare for your orientation experience.
Parent and Guest Orientation
Parent and Guest Orientation dates will take place between Tuesday, August 18th-Saturday, August 22nd. The parent and guest orientations offered will repeat each day and parents and supporters will only need to attend 1 day of parent and guest orientation.
Dates available:
- Tuesday, August 18th: Commuter student Parent and Guest Orientation
- Wednesday, August 19th: On campus resident Parent and Guest Orientation
- Thursday, August 20th: On campus resident Parent and Guest Orientation
- Friday, August 21st: On campus resident Parent and Guest Orientation
- Saturday, August 22nd: On campus resident Parent and Guest Orientation (All parent and guest presentations on this date will be delivered in Spanish only).
On campus resident students, once you have signed up for your move-in date please select that same date for your parent and guest orientation. If you haven’t selected your move-in date yet, please visit the housing portal. Early move-in students, we encourage you to attend the Tuesday, August 18th orientation. However, if you would like to attend an orientation between Aug 19th-Aug 22nd you are welcomed to select one of those days. Parent and Guest orientation sessions will take place between 1:00 PM -5:00 PM and will end with a Family and Supporters BBQ from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Please ensure your parents, guests, and supporters are signed up to attend Parent and Guest orientation with you for them to participate in the orientation sessions and the Family and Supporters BBQ. There will be 3 sessions available for Parents and Supporters to attend that will repeat between 1:00-5:00 PM. During that time, students will also have an opportunity to attend their required academic workshops.

Academic Workshops
All students are required to attend three academic workshops that will be offered between Tuesday, August 18th-Saturday, August 22nd with a final offering of workshops available on Monday, August 24th.
New Student Orientation Information
New Student Orientation programming will take place Sunday, August 23-Tuesday, August 25th between 8:00 AM -5:00 PM. Evening programming will also be available for students to participate on Sunday, August 23rd-Tuesday, August 25th. Students will be scheduled into required morning sessions between 8:00 AM – 2:00PM on Aug 23-Aug 24 and will have an opportunity to attend elective sessions in the afternoon from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM. If you haven’t selected your elective sessions yet, you have until Wednesday, August 5th to log into your Orientation Experience portal to make your selections. We will conclude our Orientation program on Tuesday, August 25th with the traditional Bridge Crossing tradition followed by Department Sessions, Open Houses, and afternoon elective sessions. Students can start viewing the full orientation schedule on our orientation website (orientation.ucmerced.edu) and will be able to start viewing their finalized personalized orientation schedules starting on Monday, August 17th. Starting on that date, we encourage you to print your schedule or you are welcomed to view your schedule via your mobile device.
