Merced is unofficially known as the gateway to Yosemite National Park, and UC Merced students regularly take the short drive to one of the most beautiful spots on earth. There are amazing views everywhere you turn, and it’s the perfect spot to relax and become one with nature. Merced is also within two hours of cities, landmarks and recreation spots, including 10 large lakes, 2 ski resorts, Exchequer Mountain Bike Park, 2 rivers, and 35 campgrounds.

Merced

A City on the Rise Merced, one of the fastest growing cities in California, is a charming and friendly community in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley. Traversed by an extensive network of bike paths (in fact one of the top city bikeway systems in the U.S.), Merced also offers an eclectic mix of shops, as well as great restaurant and entertainment options.

Downtown The historic Merced Theatre's tower is one of downtown Merced's most recognizable landmarks. The downtown area is currently undergoing a revitalization that includes the newly renovated/opened Mainzer Theater and the fully restored and updated El Capitan Hotel, which is great for visiting families.
