Hey Future First-year Bobcats!

We know starting college can feel a little overwhelming—especially when it comes to choosing your first classes. That’s why we’re excited to offer Smart Start, a special program just for first-year students that’s designed to take the stress off your shoulders. If you register for Orientation by June 9, the Office of the Registrar will build your first-semester class schedule for you, so you can focus on getting excited for life at UC Merced. It’s like letting us do the driving while you enjoy the ride! If you’re currently undeclared, the Bobcat Advising Center will reach out to see if you’d like to indicate a major of interest so you can participate in Smart Start, too. The Registrar’s Office will follow up in June to confirm you’re in the program—no need to reach out. For more details, visit registrar.ucmerced.edu/Smart_Start.
To stay on track and be eligible, make sure you’re completing these key steps:
- By May 31: Complete all required placement exams. More info here
- By June 1: Self-report your AP and IB courses and send any official college transcripts if you took college courses in high school. More info here
- By June 1: Double-check that your major is correct in our system. More info here
- By June 9: Register for Orientation—the key step to join Smart Start!
- By the fall fee payment deadline: Accept your Student Statement of Financial Responsibility to understand your financial commitments to UC Merced.
We’re here to support you every step of the way. Let’s make your transition to college smooth and stress-free!
