Course registration
First year students will register for classes on UC Merced Connect at a randomly assigned time between June 28 and July 1. Transfer students will register on June 23. Your advisor will recommend courses based on your intended major, provide how-to resources for navigating the online system, and alert you to other requirements to ensure you are prepared for registration.

Placement Exams
Chemistry and Math placement exams for incoming students must be completed by 4 p.m. (PDT) June 1. If you do not take the required exams by the deadline, you will be placed into preparatory-level chemistry and math courses. Read the FAQ for more information. There is also a new online computer science and engineering (CSE) placement exam that is required for all CSE and Applied Math-Computer Science emphasis (MATH-CSE) majors or those planning to later declare CSE or MATH-CSE. Changing Your Major (First Year Students)
To declare or change your major, you must fill out the Undergraduate Major Change form by June 1. Only first year students (freshmen) are permitted to change their major and can only submit the form once. Keep in mind that there may be restrictions on changing into certain majors. Important Fall Registration Dates
Before June 1: Your academic advisor will send information about placement exams to your UC Merced email address after you submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR). All first year students must take the math placement exam. All first year science, engineering and Pre-Health majors also must take the chemistry placement exam. There is also a new online computer science and engineering (CSE) placement exam that is required for all CSE and Applied Math-Computer Science emphasis (MATH-CSE) majors or those planning to later declare CSE or MATH-CSE.
