Ensuring your safety and security and that of our community is the UC Merced Police Department’s top priority; that is why each officer, public safety dispatcher, Public Service Ambassador (PSA) and Student Service Ambassador (SSA) is highly trained and focused on customer service to meet your needs. They also are some of the friendliest people you will meet on campus and are here to serve you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
some ways we keep you safe
The UC Merced Police Department offers programs and services aimed at increasing your safety and security. Below are a few examples. For a full list, visit this page.
Emergency Blue Lights are direct lines to dispatch located around campus. In an emergency, anyone can use the blue lights to talk directly to dispatch to get assistance quickly or request a safety escort. The safety escorts are performed by Student Employees, Security Ambassadors, or Police Officers. The UCMPD works very closely with the CAPS and CARE office to ensure safety and provide support to all our students and staff. CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services) provide professional services for the emotional, personal, and social wellbeing of students. The Office offers short-term counseling services through individual, couple and group formats, as well as crisis intervention. CARE (Campus Advocacy, Resources and Education) provides prevention education for the UC Merced community to achieve an environment free from the threat of sexual violence, dating/domestic violence and stalking. The UCMPD works very closely with our campus partners and provides the necessary guidance when needed. The Rave Guardian app is available to students and staff to help keep our community safe while on campus. This is free to students and can be downloaded on your cellphone or tablet. Registering your bike and electronics increases the chance that they will be recovered if stolen. You can register your belongings online. If you register your bike the UCMPD will provide you with a free Kryptonite U-Lock while supplies last.
