Well-Equipped Facilities
Both the Gallo Recreation & Wellness Center and Student Activities & Athletics Center are open over 110 hours each week. Each facility has a wide variety of cardiovascular equipment including treadmills, ellipticals, stair climbers and stationary bikes, and has a wide range of strength-training equipment including a selectorized circuit and squat racks with free weights. The outdoor basketball courts and tennis courts are now open for use. Four full-length basketball courts and two full-size tennis courts can be used during facility hours. Take advantage of our outdoor spaces! The Aquatics Center features a competition sized 25yd by 50m pool with up to sixteen lanes for lap swim and athletic competition. It is located adjacent to the Health and Athletics Center, Transit Hub and Outdoor Recreation Fields. The Aquatics Center is open for lap swim seven days a week during the semester and is home to the UC Merced Men’s and Women’s Water Polo teams. Information on lap swim hours can be found at recreation.ucmerced.edu/aquatics. Access to the Aquatics Center is open to all currently enrolled students. The Recreation Fields, outdoor basketball courts and tennis courts are reserved primarily for intramural activities, intercollegiate athletic practices, sports club practices, and open recreation.

If you need some motivation to get moving, you can request a personal trainer for a fee. Or, you can have access to all of the fitness classes we offer, at many skill levels for a nominal fee. A few popular classes: • Circuit training • Dance • Core • Yoga • Cycling
Sports Clubs
The Sport Club Program promotes student participation at the regional and national level that is managed and run by UC Merced students. Past sport clubs have included: • Archery • Softball • Bobcat Dance Team • Tennis • Cheer
Intramural Sports
Exercise, relieve stress and join an activity you love. If you’re a first-timer, intramural sports are a great way to get involved and meet new people that share a similar interest. There are a variety of activities at all skill levels to choose from for a nominal fee. Sign-up for the most current and updated intramural offerings. Past intramural sports offerings have included: • Basketball • NBA 2k • Tennis • Dodgeball • Rocket League • Ultimate Volleyball • FIFA • Soccer • Flag Football • Super Smash Brothers

The Outdoor Experience Program is the hub of all things outdoors at UC Merced. It’s located in the UC Merced Outdoor Center in the SAAC. Programs include Outdoor Adventure trips, Open Wrench Bicycle repair sessions, and outdoor equipment and kayak rentals. Past trips have included hikes in Yosemite and Sequoias National Parks along with visits to Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Francisco.

The 2023-2024 UC Merced Athletics season is gearing up! Game Day is always an exciting time, so plan to attend a game or two and show your Bobcat pride! UC Merced has 12 intercollegiate teams participating in the NAIA – men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, soccer, track, volleyball and water polo. Check the Game Day schedule for the full lineup of games this season. Admission to games is free for students – just show your CatCard. Join us to cheer on our teams with Rufus!
