About
POLITICAL SCIENCE PH.D.
The Political Science Graduate Group at UC Merced offers innovative Ph.D. training that emphasizes a rigorous, theoretical, and quantitative approach to the study of politics.
We use a unique approach to graduate training, focused on Political Institutions & Political Economy (PIPE) and Political Cognition & Behavior (CAB), guaranteeing that students will have a comprehensive and creative understanding of politics.
We believe in interdisciplinary research, crossing boundaries and finding new frontiers, so students are also encouraged to work with faculty from other disciplines such as cognitive science, psychology, economics, sociology and philosophy to enrich their education.

POLITICAL SCIENCE at uc merced
Graduate training hinges on a student's access to and engagement with faculty. The small size of our program guarantees that seminar classes are small and students have unparalleled one-on-one faculty mentoring with respect to research, training, and professional development. The success of a graduate program also depends upon the quality of the faculty. A recent study of political science in the University of California system found that UC Merced's political science faculty have the highest average rate of research productivity in the entire UC system. Our faculty regularly publish their cutting-edge research in the very best journals and book presses in the discipline.
Graduates of our program have gone on to careers as professors at research and teaching universities, as well as high-profile positions in the private sector.
The application deadline is January 15th.

FUNDING SUPPORT
Our graduate students are offered funding in the form of teaching or research assistantships. The low cost of living in Merced means that funding stretches further than at many other campuses. We also offer annual research grants to our students to assist with their ability to acquire skills, conduct research, and present work at professional conferences.
