ENTERPRISE APPLICATION SERVICES

What We Do

The Enterprise Application Service (EAS) team works directly with UC Merced’s business and academic offices, as well as with software vendors and consultants, to provide applications and data access services for the entire campus. Our goal is to improve the student, staff, and faculty experience through the application of information technology.

The Enterprise Application Services team provides a number of valuable services to the campus:

  • translation of business requirements into technical specifications
  • integration of data using coding languages like Java, Angular/JavaScript, .NET, SQL, PLSQL, and PHP in Unix and Windows
  • application of agile and test-driven development to campus projects
  • consultation and integration services for a number of cloud-based applications

2017 HIGHLIGHTS

Cashnet

In 2017, we completed a significant overhaul of the various campus epay web interfaces that are used to enable mobile and online banking transactions, replacing those systems with Cashnet’s hosted solution in a campuswide implementation.

This change reduced costs associated with UC Merced’s support of ePay, epayPC and mPay applications; reduced the scope of Payment Card Industry (PCI) standard requirements on the campus; and gained efficiencies in transaction posting and general ledger reconciliation.

DBS 2020

DBS 2020 is a major initiative to increase productivity and workflow efficiency for staff, faculty and students via electronic document management solutions. OIT selected and implemented the Hyland Onbase platform, a cloud-based solution for document and workflow management. Hyland Onbase allowed us to replace and consolidate our legacy system, ImageNow, which had been implemented across various siloed business units for a number of years.

In 2017, OIT began implementation on 3 key projects under this initiative:

  • DBS–UCPath workflow automation
  • Migration from ImageNow for the offices of Financial Aid, Registrar, Graduate Division and APPO
  • Downtown Campus Center paper digitization process (expected completion spring 2018)

Once fully integrated, a robust, state-of-the-art document management and workflow automation platform will position UC Merced for future growth and equip OIT with the tools needed to realize the campus 2020 vision.

Thank you for your hard work on making sure the CashNet payment system was ready for release!

I know we still have a bit of work to make the automated process happen, but I know it took an extra amount of effort to get this plan in place and work around the issues with the vendor.

Looking Ahead

Enterprise Application Services has a big year to look forward to. Here are a number of projects launched in 2017 and that will continue to be priority initiatives designed to improve the UC Merced student experience and faculty and staff productivity and efficiency:

Identity Management
(IDM)

OIT was among 10 nationwide campuses selected to participate in the Trust and Identity in Education and Research (TIER), Campus Success Program by Internet2. Together TEIR campuses are collaborating to implement identity management solutions on their respective campuses.

OIT will be implementing two such solutions: Identity Provisioning and User Group Management in 2018, which will allow the campus to more easily handle multiple tasks associated with the management of

online identities from building access for students who live and work on campus, to digital software delivery for students in a particular class.

Graduate Application Review System (SLATE)

OIT has partnered with the Graduate Division to implement SLATE, a platform solution designed for the breadth and depth of modern graduate admissions.

The SLATE platform encompasses a Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) for outreach to prospective students, travel management, online applications, and online review of applications.

This implementation positions Graduate Division for future growth and aligns to the overall UCM 2020 Strategic Vision.

Undergraduate Admissions Review Application (ART)

OIT has partnered with Undergraduate Admissions to migrate from their legacy Applicant Admission Review Online (AARO) application to a more robust platform able to support a projected 25,000+ applicants in coming years.

Cross-Campus Enrollment System (CCES)

In 2018, the Enterprise Application Team will continue to collaborate with the University of California Office of the President and our vendor Ellucian to implement a solution that will allow UC Merced students to enroll in online courses at any of the 10 UC campuses.
